Hi Dr. De Lia,

Just wanted to email you some good news for a change.  I had an appointment today at UCONN to have another amnio reduction.   I’m pretty uncomfortable once again and figured I had filled up with fluid again.  However, when the doctors did another ultrasound they found that the larger baby’s (Ben’s) largest pocket was only 8cm and that the smaller baby (Joshua) actually had a 4cm pocket and the membrane was very visible.  They were also able to detect a hint of a bladder in Joshua (I couldn’t see it – but the doctor thought she saw it…).  But he must have a bladder if he’s producing fluid now right?

They didn’t take any fluid today – we’re going to wait until Thursday to do the reduction again – but we were so glad to finally get some good news.  Perhaps the prayers and bedrest and the vessel you were able to cut might be showing signs of working!!!

 Talk to you soon…

4cm, hard to believe.  I hope there is no inadvertant hole in the septum.

Eat, eat, eat.

Is there any way to check for that hole?  I was hoping it was good news...

First, it is not necessarily bad news, either the donor is urinating (good) or their is the hole (which is one of the treatment of TTTS although we don't like it).  I think it would be impossible to find.  If it gets larger, they may have clues that it's there.  You can ask them to look, and consider a hole at least as a possibility.

Keep up the good work.

(As it turned out, Dr. DeLia was correct in assuming there might have been a puncture made in the dividing membrane...and we would find out later that it was Benjamin's fluid that had been leaking into Joshua's side)
