Subject: Ben Update
9-22-02
Hello everyone,
It’s been a few days since my last update – but there wasn’t much to
report for a while. Ben continues to
recover from his intestine surgery. He
is recovering nicely and the only medication he is on at the moment is Morphine
(which he’s been on since birth..) They
changed him onto a more flexible breathing tube which allows him to breathe
intermittently on his own as well in between machine breaths.
By being on this more flexible respirator, he was able to be moved to a
new incubator yesterday – a hard shelled one that we can now lay blankets on
etc…it’s kind of a little “graduation” of sorts to be moved to this new
incubator.
The best news though was that yesterday when they were moving him to his
new “house”,
Jeffrey
and I had
the opportunity to hold him for the first time.
It was an amazing feeling to finally hold my son for the first
time…just amazing. I think
Jeffrey
felt the
same way. I have attached a couple
of pictures of this event so you can see it firsthand!
So he’s hanging in there, continuing to
fight – for all that he’s been through he’s proving to be a tough little
man.
Please keep praying…I know he is reaping the benefits, as are we.
Our
love to all of you…,
Lisa Cote
